FREE Poetry Opportunity for London Primary Schools

Throughout Autumn term 2019, students at 10 participating primary schools will learn how to write and perform their own original spoken word poetry, guided by Eastside’s expert Spoken Word Educators.

All participating students will perform in a poetry slam hosted at your school, and enter their work into the I know I wish I will spoken word poetry competition online. 500 children and young people from across England will then be selected to feature in a record-breaking 25-hour Poetry Marathon on stage in London’s West End.

Why should my school apply to participate in I know I wish I will?

  • Create excitement around literacy and language through the inclusive art of Spoken Word Poetry

  • Engage learners who struggle to access writing and literacy

  • Improve speaking & listening, writing and vocabulary

  • Build confidence and collaborative skills through writing and performing group poetry

Each participating class receives:

  • 2 half-day interactive spoken word poetry workshops with our spoken word educators for students.

  • 1 Poetry CPD workshop, access to a Poetry Teacher Pack and a library of video teaching resources.

  • Support and guidance in putting on your school’s poetry slam.

  • The chance for children to perform in the Spoken Word Poetry Marathon in London’s West End for World Poetry Day, March 2020.
